Let me first of all introduce myself.
I’m Michael H. Brown, a professional journalist since 1975 and head of this new weekly health news website.
This website will present the very latest in medical, nutritional, fitness, pharmaceutical, environmental, and other health-related content that will be culled from across the massive internet, academic, and medical landscapes and aggregated all in one place for your ready perusal.
My own background in this field goes back to the 1970s, when, as a local newspaper reporter, I broke the famous Love Canal toxic-waste crisis in Niagara Falls, New York. You can view my participating (and the incredible story of that dangerous situation) in the recent PBS special, “Poisoned Ground.”
I was nominated for three Pulitzer Prizes for that work, and write a major book about that and other such situations around the nation called Laying Waste: The Poisoning of America by Toxic Chemicals (Pantheon/Random House, 1980). I appeared everywhere from the Today Show several times and Nightline to Phil Donahue and Oprah Winfrey before she was famous. I appeared or talked on hundreds of show in the early Eighties about this critical health issue, and spoke at about a hundred colleges and universities. My articles and book adaptations appeared in The Atlantic Monthly, The New York Times Magazine, Reader’s Digest, American Health, Discover, Saturday Review, New York Magazine, Amicus (Natural Resources Defense Council), Newsday, Family Weekly, Science Digest, and other publications. An expose of mine in Science Digest caused McDonald’s and other fast-food companies to halt the use of beef tallow for frying of French fries.
We now, in this world, face many larger health concerns, and with things like nutrition, have invited a public health catastrophe (wait until you see some of what we’ll present).
The point is that I have a background in serious health issues and now am extending that to a new journalistic venture that will compile what we believe are the most interesting and helpful articles from around the world when it comes to living healthily.
So check us out. Excuse any growing pains. And please let your relatives, friends, colleagues, and social-media contact know about Health Watch Weekly. We look forward to informing and serving you!
